Canon EOS 70D vs Canon EOS 80D Camera Comparison

Now that Canon has introduced the 80D one question that keeps coming up is how does it compare against the 70D? The 80D is a pretty significant update to the 70D camera as can be seen in the specs at the bottom of this page as well as in the detailed differences below. I was quite impressed with the specs on the 80D and the early reviews show a lot of promise for the Canon 80D. Read my Canon EOS 70D vs Canon EOS 80D camera comparison to see the differences and help you decide which camera is right for you.

Canon EOS 70D Advantages

The only advantage offered by the 70D at this time is a lower price, but since the 80D is replacing the 70D, this advantage for the 70D will be short lived until the 70D is no longer available.

Canon EOS 80D Advantages

The 80D improves on the 70D in many ways.

24mp sensor
45-point AF (all cross type)
100% viewfinder
1080p 60FPS video
Headphone Jack

Conclusion

If you don’t want or need the new features from the 80D then the 70D will be a good value while it is still available, but the 80D is a significant update to the 70D in a lot of ways that make it worth getting the 80D over the 70D. If you currently own a 70D and are considering the 80D the decision becomes a little tougher. The 80D does offer a compelling upgrade from the 70D, but you will need to weigh the 80D’s new features to determine if they are worth the upgrade. I generally recommend skipping a generation to get more bang for your buck. Therefore if you have a 60D or older XXD body, or if you have a Rebel and are looking for the next level of performance then I highly recommend the 80D.
