Canon EOS 6D Mark II vs Nikon D750 Camera Comparison

Canon and Nikon are always competing strongly against each other. Being the two 800-lb gorillas makes for an interesting battle. With the new Canon EOS 6D Mark II it is necessary to compare with the Nikon competitor, the Nikon D750. Although the D750 may be a little long in the tooth, don’t count it out yet. Check out my in-depth Canon EOS 6D Mark II vs Nikon D750 comparison to see how they fare.

Initially the Canon EOS 6D Mark II faced a pretty severe backlash over it’s purported lack of dynamic range. It was very telling that the EOS 80D seemed to offer better dynamic range. Since the 80D is an APS-C camera, that should not happen. One of the advantages of Full Frame sensors is the increased dynamic range they capture due to the larger pixels.

The internet has seemed to settle down a bit since DP Review published that initial finding and the EOS 6DII has sold fairly well. There is a lot to like about the 6DII.

Another disappointment with the Canon EOS 6DII was the lack of 4k video, but note that the Nikon D750 does not offer 4k video either.

Conclusion

As always, my recommendation is going to be based on several factors. First, if you already own one system or the other then I suggest you stay within that system. It is very expensive to buy all of the lenses, flashes and other accessories every time a photographer switches systems.

Of course, if one of these cameras has a specific lens, feature or other benefit that your current system doesn’t have, then by all means do what you have to do. Also, if you are not heavily invested in lenses and accessories for your current system, then switching is not quite as painful.

But for those who don’t already have a current system, or have a small investment and trying to decide which system to buy, then my recommendation would be to look carefully at the available lenses and accessories in both systems and let that be your primary deciding factor.

Secondary factors will be feature differences such as the articulated LCD touchscreen and built in GPS for the Canon 6DII or the dual card slots and built in flash for the Nikon D750.

At the end of the day, both cameras are excellent, but personally, I prefer the Nikon D750 over the Canon EOS 6DII – but just barely.
